In 2021, Echo was abandoned by her family.

A five-and-a-half-year-old dog named Echo has finally found a new home after spending nearly two and a half years at an animal shelter.

In 2021, Echo was taken to the Marion Area Humane Society in Ohio after her original owner found out she was pregnant with a child.

The dog, which volunteers at the shelter feared was “unadoptable,” left the shelter with its new family on Monday, marking the end of the center's longest-ever stay.

Shelter staff said it was bittersweet to see him go because he had become “a big part of their lives.”

In a post on Facebook, they wrote: “852 days later, the echo has left the building!

“Wish him the best of luck in his adoptive family,” they added.

The article also featured two photos of Eco and his new family.

“Echo, our long time resident was surrendered in 2021… He waited a long time for someone to give him a chance.

“Everyone who knew Echo loved him! We will miss this boy greatly at MAHS. Nearly three years later, he has become a huge part of our lives.

“No matter how long it takes, every dog deserves a chance. Echo is mentally and emotionally strong for us, so we know his time is coming. We will never give up on them!

“We will keep you all updated as we hear more! We know how much he means to so many people.”

Underneath the post, several followers of the page left well wishes for Echo, who have been following his journey since he arrived at the shelter in 2021.

One person wrote: “I pray that this precious boy will have his forever home. I pray that whoever adopts him will be patient, loving and understanding of his past situation.

“He needs time to trust and decompress. Praying for Echo.”

Another said: “Good luck Echo and be a good boy! Thank you so much for giving him a chance!

“We took Tucker,” they added. “It took him a good eight months to adjust but he has become such a sweetheart!

“It just takes time!”

Back in November, staff at the Marion Area Humane Society put out a plea to potential adopters to consider giving Echo a new home because they believed at the time that Echo's “spark was fading.”

They wrote: “Echo is 5 1/2 years old and originally came to us after his owner had a baby. He has had many meet and greets and we have watched him hopeful, only to be let go Back to the kennel….

“Our volunteers joke that Echo meet-and-greets should be split into two parts – indoors and outdoors. As soon as Echo steps onto the grass, he goes into 'catch mode' and wants to play ball for hours on end, among other things. He doesn't even care.

“When Echo is indoors, he is more attentive and affectionate.”

They continued: “This dog is beautiful, smart, and lively, and it is very difficult to watch him spend time in a kennel.”

Four months on, Echo has proven himself adoptable and is now settling in well to what he hopes will be his forever home.
