This airborne fast-food drama has sparked heated discussions online.
A man who got into a heated argument with another passenger on a flight because she didn't want him eating meat next to her has described the ordeal in an online forum.
The passenger, whose username is u/Flightstatus0, posted about his ordeal on the Reddit forum during the flight and asked other users if something was wrong with him.
The post received 330 comments from various people, with varying consensus on who was at fault.
The man described how he went hungry during the eight-hour journey because the first flight only offered “a small packet of biscuits”.
He wrote: “During the transfer process, I barely had enough time to run from one end of the airport to the other. When I arrived at the transfer gate, I discovered that I had enough time to order food but not eat it. I asked the boarding board The gate agent asked if I could bring food on board, and she happily assured me that I could. I went to get a burger, fries, and a drink.
“As soon as I was allowed to put down the tray, I started eating,” he continued.
“That's when a woman sitting next to me told me she doesn't eat meat or fried food and the smell of my burger and fries made her sick.
“I ignored her at first and kept eating, but she complained louder. I finally told her I bought the food after checking with the gate agent and I was hungry so she was out of luck. She called the flight attendant Called and was told I had every right to eat food bought at the airport.”
He ended his post with a question: “I know I'm right about airline regulations, but the food in the closed area is spicy and she's staring at me, so am I?”
The top comment told the man that he was absolutely right and encouraged him to twist the knife further in.
“Feel free to stare back at her and make passive aggressive comments to her,” they wrote. “If I'm in the mood, I'll even face her and open my mouth and chew, lol.”
Another agreed the man had done nothing wrong but suggested he take a calmer approach.
“I've found that the silent method works best, just react to eating, don't make any noise, and do it randomly while eating. It's bound to annoy some people,” they wrote.
Another believes it all depends on how smelly and pungent the food is. Considering the cabin is a small and enclosed space, perhaps the man should have been more aware of the aromatic effects of his food choices.
Reddit user vatxbear wrote: “No joke. I was five months pregnant and the guy next to me brought out a huge tuna sandwich to eat on the plane. Who made that? I feel like it would be a disservice to him if I threw up on him Yes (thankfully I didn’t throw up), but it was excruciating trying to just breathe through my mouth for 20 minutes and ignore the tuna.”
Alternative-Wait3533 argued: “Burgers and fries are not 'spicy' lmao”.
Another user opted for a comedic approach to this particular conflict.
“If she is sick, give her what's in the bag,” they wrote.
