CIA Director Bill Burns said on Monday that Ukraine “could lose significant ground in 2024” in its fight with Russia if the U.S. Congress fails to pass a bill to provide additional supplemental funding to Ukraine.

Ukrainian militants withdrew their troops from Avdievka in eastern Ukraine last month, and Burns said Kyiv would be forced to make a similar decision without more U.S. aid.

With the aid, the CIA assessed that Ukraine could “hold its ground” on the front lines in 2024 and early 2025, he said. He said Ukrainian attacks had sunk 15 Russian ships in the past six months and that additional aid would allow more such attacks.
