Brentford fought back to equalize after Mason Mount thought he had secured victory for United.
United were held to a 1-1 draw at the Gtech Stadium but could count themselves lucky as Brentford goalkeeper Andre Onana struggled to defend for much of the game. Onana performed admirably and described the game as a “cup final” in an interview with Sky Sports before kick-off.
Apart from a few speculative efforts, United were on the back foot for much of the game. However, Mason Mount thought he had secured the winner in stoppage time, with Alan Smith describing it as “the biggest smash and grab I've seen all season or any season recently!”
Brentford went straight to goal at the other end and equalized through Christopher Ajer to the delight of the fans.

At half-time, Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp expressed his bewilderment at United's performance, saying: “I'm looking at Marcus Rashford; I'm looking at Marcus Rashford Shford.” He walked about as if he were happy. This is the Premier League…I'm surprised at how poorly Manchester United performed. “
Brentford came closest in the first half through Ivan Toney, who found himself one-on-one with Onana before hitting the ball against the post.
Toney had another shot into the Brentford net with 20 minutes remaining, volleying Bryan Mbeumo's lofted ball past the collapsed United goalkeeper. But the linesman raised his flag. VAR then confirmed the decision on the field.
The Londoners created chance after chance for United's goals. They took 31 shots, five of which hit the target, not to mention three of them hitting the woodwork. The visitors, on the other hand, had 11 shots on goal, five of which were on target, mostly from ambitious long-range shots.
Erik ten Hag's side look different to the side that beat Liverpool two weeks ago. Tonight, they seemed to lack ideas and inspiration on both offense and defense.
The draw leaves sixth-placed United eight points behind Tottenham and 11 points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa. Villa and Tottenham both boosted their hopes of securing Champions League places with wins on Saturday afternoon.
Ten Hag's side travel to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea on Thursday night.
