“She died with a contented and loving heart”

Kris Hallenga, founder of breast cancer charity CoppaFeel!, has died aged 38.

Hallenga was diagnosed with late-stage breast cancer in 2009, when she was 23, and lived with the disease for 15 years. During this time, she campaigned for breast cancer awareness and founded CoppaFeel to ensure early and accurate diagnosis of breast cancer.

A statement on the charity's website said: “She didn't lose a battle, she didn't fight one and she certainly didn't want you to see her tragic death.

“She just lived. She passed away at 38 years old with a content and loving heart.”

The charity said: “Chris has reached millions of people with a message of health advocacy and empowerment, successfully campaigned to integrate cancer education into the school curriculum, won the Women of the Year Outstanding Young Campaigner Award and received public recognition Honorary Doctorate, Master of Administration, Nottingham Trent University, and author of the Times bestseller: Glittering a Turd.

“Chris’s mission in life is CoppaFeel! will no longer need to exist because late-diagnosed breast cancer was eradicated during her lifetime. We are committed to continuing Chris’ legacy and ensuring everyone has the best chance to live a Happy and healthy life.”

Her family has asked for “peace and privacy to allow them time and space to process Chris' death.”

The statement concluded: “Please remember Chris's amazing life and all she accomplished, but most importantly, honor her memory by checking out your breasts… it just might save your life.”

A JustGiving page has been set up in memory of Chris for people to donate to charity.
