“The type of bartender everyone needs”
A bartender who saved two girls from being molested with a clever trick has been hailed as a “hero”.
Twitter user Trinity Allie shared online the actions of Max Gutierrez, who was serving them at a bar in Florida while she was out drinking with her partner.
He used a subtle tactic to protect the girls from being “creepy” and Ellie praised him online.
Sharing a photo of Gutierrez, she wrote: “This man harassed me and my friends and the bartender handed me this note like it was my receipt!”
“Everybody needs a legit bartender type.”
Gutierrez can be seen in the photo handing the note to the girls. It read: “If this guy bothers you, put your ponytail over your other shoulder and I will get rid of him. He gives me the creeps.”
By giving it to Ellie and her friends on the board (usually receiving a receipt), he is able to offer his assistance to the girls without arousing suspicion from the other person.
Ellie explained that after the man left, she asked the waiter to pose with a note for the photo so she could share it online and “show my appreciation.”
Eventually, Gutierrez had to intervene in a more confrontational manner to get the “monster” to leave.
Ellie wrote: “(Max) ended up having to yell at the guy and he said 'you need to stay away from these girls who are clearly not interested' and the guy said 'that's a bit aggressive' and then he said 'ok (You) attack them and you need to leave.'”
The story went viral and eventually the hero saw the article and reply: “Hey, this is me!”
“Interesting update, the guy I kicked out on Sunday night is now back at the bar having a beer and told him I wasn't going to serve him,” he said.
A few days later, Trinity and Max reunited.
Some people praised Max's actions, with one writing: “Not all heroes wear capes. Some wear Hawaiian shirts.”
The story of the encounter later made its way to Reddit, where Max shared more details so other bartenders could use the technique.
He said it's something he learned “from a bartender mentor” and that eventually you “become really good at reading people, body language.”
He continued: “This guy has been giving off really weird vibes for a long time and I've been keeping an eye on him, trying to give him a chance, trying to get girls to tell him no, that's it, but he didn't Accept.” Didn't get an answer and kept pestering them so eventually I yelled at him and told him to leave, haha. “
“Honestly, I don’t like yelling at customers or embarrassing people, but I find it’s one of the best ways to deal with annoying people.
“Shouting them loudly in people’s faces is usually enough to make them turn around and walk away.
“I just don't want to make my guests uncomfortable.”
An absolute hero.
