Anthony Joshua opens up about his retirement plans
After his victory over Francis Ngannou, Joshua explained that he has no immediate plans to retire.
The boxing legend revealed he wanted to retire from boxing within two years, despite initially having different plans.
In a new appearance on the Jonathan Ross Show, he explained: “I always say 35. I'm going to be 35 in October and I'd like to give it another two years or so if my body can hold on.”
“I’ve built some businesses that transition naturally without me being in the lead.”
However, for those hoping to see Joshua return to the ring in the near future, don't get your hopes too high.
Joshua won't return to the ring after his victory over Ngannou, who managed just eight hits before being knocked out.
“I was told it would be around September,” he shared via The Mirror .
“I was hoping for June. I have some time now to go on dates and have some relationships. I'm training now and I'm still two months away from going into training camp.”
Although Joshua says he plans to continue fighting until he is 37, one of the star's main sparring partners believes he still has a few years left in his life.
Jamie TK says he thinks Joshua can stay in the ring until he is 40.
“He believes in what Ben and Lee Wylie taught him,” he told Boxing News.
“It gives him the confidence to do what he’s doing.
“I just think AJ is going to be a three-time world champion and the way he moves he adds another three or five years to his career.”
