Gordon Ramsay has become known worldwide as one of the most talented chefs on the planet, and he’s known just as much for his sharp tongue, foul mouth and scary demeanour as he is his cooking ability.

Many a cook has been on the receiving end of dressing down from Chef Ramsay whether on MasterChef, Kitchen Nightmares, or Hell’s Kitchen.

But there was one occasion when Gordon was the one being chastised for a dish he created.

Some of you may remember that back in the late Noughties, the Michelin-star chef presented a Channel 4 show called The F Word.

Each episode would see Ramsay create a three-course meal at his restaurant for a group of celebrity guests. The show also included food challenges, and segments looking at food preparation, recipes, diets and delicacies from across the world.

One episode saw Ramsay head to the Blue Elephant restaurant to meet executive chef Chang. He had been tasked with preparing a plate of pad thai for some Buddhist monks from Wimbledon’s Thai temple.

With Chang watching over him, Ramsay admits the “pressure is on” as he tries to create the dish to the head chef’s high standards.

As he prepares the dish using ingredients such as shallots, spring onions, chilli, tamarind paste, and prawns he tells the camera: “I’m so excited to be cooking for the monks today. Never cooked for monks before.”

As the dish comes together he adds some fish sauce, salt and sugar, before pouring in a beaten egg along with the noodles and bean sprouts.

Proudly presenting his pad thai to Chang, Gordon seems pretty chuffed with his efforts.

Unfortunately for him, Change didn’t agree.

After tasting the pad thai, fires a glare at Ramsay, the likes of which he probably on the receiving end of since his earliest days learning his trade in kitchens.

Completely and utterly unimpressed (YouTube/Channel 4)

“What do you want to know from me? Ask me,” Chang tells Gordon.

“How is it?” the Scot nervously asks.

An unimpressed Chang replies: “Hmm… no, this is not pad thai at all. No. Pad thai has to be sweet, sour, and salty.”

Gordon Ramsay being Gordon Ramsay though, he hits back, respectfully disagreeing with Change.

He tells the chef: “I think that doesn’t taste too bad. It’s not perfect… “

But Chang is having none of it, ending the discussion by saying: “For you, but not for me.”

As far as we know, this is the only time someone has dared criticise Ramsay so bluntly, or at least this is the only time someone has done so and lived to tell the tale.
