Flintoff is back on our screens

Freddie Flintoff is set to return to television after his horrific car accident while filming Top Gear in 2022.

The 46-year-old will make his television debut in the second series of cricket documentary Field of Dreams.

The BBC confirmed the news in its annual programme. Flintoff will reportedly take his young sports team from Preston to shows across the country.

It comes after the broadcaster announced they had “decided to pause” Top Gear following Flintoff's incident.

The England cricket legend was driving an open-top three-wheeled Morgan Super 3 when the vehicle flipped over and slid along the track at high speed.

He was not wearing a helmet and suffered severe facial injuries and broken ribs.

After the incident, the broadcaster announced the cancellation of Season 34 and apologized to Flintoff.

The BBC said in a statement that it “remains committed to Freddie, Chris and Paddy, who have been at the heart of the show's revival since 2019, and we are excited about the new projects being developed with each of them.” We will have more to say about this in the near future.

“We know pausing shows is disappointing news for fans, but it’s the right thing to do.

“All other Top Gear activity is unaffected by this disruption, including international formats, digital, magazines and licensing.”

Flintoff has been largely out of public view since the accident, but he made his first public appearance since the accident last year when he joined the England cricket team in preparation for a match against New Zealand in Cardiff.

The former England all-rounder has visible scars on his face.

The BBC reportedly reached a £9 million settlement with Flintoff. As BBC Studios is the commercial arm of the broadcaster, this fee will not be funded by the license fee.
