Tonali has been banned for 10 months

Sandro Tonali has been charged by the Football Association for allegedly breaching betting rules.

Tonali is currently serving a 10-month football ban after being found guilty of betting on matches while playing in Italy.

A statement from the FA revealed that the 23-year-old was suspected of breaking the rules 50 times.

The statement said: “The Newcastle United midfielder is alleged to have breached FA Rule E8 50 times by placing bets on football matches between August 12, 2023, and October 12, 2023.”

“Sandro Tonali has until April 5, 2024 to respond.”

Newcastle United later responded: “Newcastle United acknowledges that Sandro Tonali has been charged with misconduct in connection with an alleged breach of FA betting rules.

“Sandro continues to comply fully with the relevant investigations and he retains the club's full support.

“As this process is ongoing, Sandro and Newcastle United are unable to comment further at this time.”

His current ban means he cannot play for Newcastle until August and subsequently represent Italy at Euro 2024.
