The Oppenheimer creator will be honored alongside his wife.

Oscar-winning director Christopher Nolan and his wife and co-producer Emma Thomas are to be knighted for their services to film.

The British government has confirmed the pair will receive the esteemed title in England this year.

During the ceremony, Nolan will be knighted and Thomas will be made a Dame.

The recognition comes one month after their biopic “Oppenheimer” swept the 2024 Academy Awards in Los Angeles.

The blockbuster won 13 Oscars at the Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor, for Irishman Cillian Murphy who played J. Robert Oppenheimer. ) won the award.

Nolan and Thomas met while studying at University College London and married in 1997.

They have four children and live in Los Angeles.

In his Best Picture acceptance speech, Thomas said: “I think all of us as filmmakers dream of this moment. But it seems unlikely that it will actually happen.”

Nolan won his first Best Director award, having previously been nominated for the award in 2017 Dunkirk.

The married couple have collaborated on all of his major feature films, including The Dark Knight trilogy, 2010's Inception, 2014's Interstellar, 2017's Dunkirk and 2020's Year's Creed.

Nolan, 53, studied English at University College London, where his interest in filmmaking deepened thanks to the university's production facilities at the time.

Nolan and Thomas co-founded production company Syncopy in 2001, a year after they had their first box office success of the millennium with Memento.

Just days after winning his first Academy Award for Best Director, Nolan is reportedly already working on his next film.

The Brit has teased the prospect of his next project taking on a new genre.

Speaking at a conversation event at the British Film Institute in London in February, he said: “I think horror movies are very interesting because they rely on very cinematic devices and it's really about visceral reactions to things, so in some ways At that time, I really wanted to make a horror movie.

“But I think a really good horror film needs a really good idea. And those are rare. So I haven't found the right story for this yet.”

However, he did add that there's “a lot of bleakness” in horror films, so we can rule that out for now.
