Thinking of what to watch on the telly this evening? Lucky for you, there’s some great choices amongst the movies on TV tonight.
Our pick of the bunch is a darkly entertaining 90s cult classic – Trainspotting.
One of the biggest cultural cinematic moments of the decade, Trainspotting jumped onto our screens in 1996 to critical acclaim, with those praising its shockingly honest detailing of heroin addiction, withdrawal and for having no filter when it comes to the effect drugs can have on people’s lives.
Starring Ewan McGregor, Ewen Bremner, Jonny Lee Miller, Kevin McKidd, Robert Carlyle, and Kelly Macdonald, the flick is based on Scottish author Irvine Welsh’s novel of the same name and follows a group of heroin addicts in a economically deprived area of Edinburgh.
The no-holds-barred nature of Danny Boyle‘s seminal flick is a perfect companion to the gritty British crime dramas of the 90s, but it’s certainly not for the faint of heart.
With that lack of filter comes a very raw and extremely dark film, given its nature, but is buoyed by its humour and heart, great soundtrack and some incredible performances from the main cast.

Don’t you forget about this iconic 80’s coming-of-age flick about a group of five different students from various stereotypical High School cliques bonding during their detention.
Evil Under the Sun – BBC4 – 11.15pm
Peter Ustinov plays detective Hercule Poirot in this 1982 mystery movie also starring Maggie Smith and Diana Rigg. Based on the 1941 novel of the same name by Agatha Christie.
Bad Teacher – Film Four – 12.45pm
Cameron Diaz stars as a middle-school teacher who hates her job and everybody involved in it, but has to return to work after her rich fiancé breaks up with her.
