Netflix just added cat peoplethe 2023 psychological thriller based on the hit short story of the same name, to its library.

The short story, written by Kristen Roupenian and published in The New Yorker in 2017, tells the story of a brief relationship between Margot, a 20-year-old college sophomore, and Robert, a 34-year-old man. relation. She was a regular at the movie theater where she worked, but it eventually took a dark turn.

After the magazine published the story, the story went viral, with many readers resonating with its depiction of a young woman in the modern dating scene.

Six years later, a film adaptation hit theaters, expanding on the story and starring Emilia Jones (CODA) as Margot and Nicholas Braun (Succession) as Robert, who calls himself Loves cats – hence the name.

The cast also includes well-known faces such as Fred Melamed (A Serious Man), Geraldine Viswanathan (Driving Dolls), Hope Davis (Asteroid City), Isabella Rossellini (Blue Velvet), Liza Colón-Zayas (The Bear), and Michael. Gandolfini (“The Saints of Newark”), the film adaptation of “Cat People”, received mixed reviews and did not do well at the box office.

That said, it can now be discovered by Netflix viewers — many of whom may not be familiar with the source material.

Here's a sample of some of the positive reviews Cat People received from critics:

Australian: “This is an intelligent, beautifully acted, brilliantly written and directed, superbly shot (by cinematographer Manuel Billet) film that will stay in your mind long after the credits roll. Ask a question.”

playlist: “An extremely funny quasi-thriller about a relationship going sour, with plenty of humor about its own unknowability.”

Toronto Star: “Cat People, sure to spark many bad date memories and post-screening debates, deftly balances silliness and horror with possibly the worst on-screen kiss ever.”

type: “This is a squirmy, uncomfortable movie that no teenager would want to watch with their mom, but maybe everyone should.”

pack: “A bold, stylish and dynamic adaptation, with big choices made. It's up to us to decide the moral of the story, and it's perhaps the boldest move yet.”

Cat People is currently streaming on Netflix in Ireland and the UK. US readers can also watch the film on Hulu.
