'The past 48 hours have taught me a lot'

Ange Postkoglu has slammed Tottenham Hotspur's “weak foundations” following their 2-0 loss to Manchester City on Tuesday night.

Erling Haaland's brace helped Manchester City return to the top of the Premier League and the Manchester club now go into the final day knowing they will once again be champions if they beat West Ham at home.

If Guardiola's side drop points against Tottenham, then the initiative on the final day will go to Arsenal, who will be in the same position as Manchester City are now.

It meant Tottenham fans were left feeling conflicted going into the game, knowing that a victory would see them handing the title to their north London rivals.

After the game, Postkoglu suggested preparations for the game, and discussions among some Tottenham fans who actively wanted their team to lose led him to focus on the club's problems.

“The last 48 hours have shown that the foundations are quite fragile,” the 58-year-old told his post-match press conference.

“It just means I have to start some things over again. It's outside (the club), inside, everywhere. It's been a fun practice.”

After City took the lead, some Tottenham fans inside the stadium chanted “Are you watching Arsenal” while others performed the Citizen's trademark celebration, Poznan.

When asked about it, the Australian responded bluntly: “I'm not interested, man. I just don't care.”

He continued: “It's just my observation, man. I'm not going to tell you because it's for me.

“I'm the one who has to do this. You can make your own assessment of what happened.

“I may have misread the situation as to what's important for you to be a winning team, but that's okay. That's why I'm here.”

Postkoglu did not reveal what specific areas he needs to improve on, but he appeared to take a swipe at Spurs fans when he said “other people's priorities are of zero interest to me”.

Some fans believe the former Celtic manager's words show he has “just discovered how impossible the Tottenham job is”.

One netizen wrote on social media: “You can see Anj Postkoglu has officially discovered how impossible the Tottenham job is. The mentality. The culture. The history. You simply can't succeed. “

Another said: “Anj Postkoglu hates losing. Everything he says and does exudes it. Managing a club where many, if not most, fans want to lose because it would hurt them the most 's opponent, it gets stuck in his paws like splinters in a dog's paws.

A third read: “Not sure you would have expected him to be poached at the end of the season when Postkoglu and his team were ovated/serenaded after the 4-1 loss to Chelsea fan.”

Spurs are now all but guaranteed to finish fifth this season, meaning they will compete in next season's Europa League.

Tuesday night's result also meant Aston Villa qualified for the Champions League for the first time since 1983.
