Goonda Raj of Raj Thackeray in Mumbai

by Eklavya on February 4, 2008

Mumbai, the financial capital of India, is in the grip of violence & turmoil these days. All because of a novice politician who is hell-bent on proving himself as the greatest savior of Maratha pride second only to the legendary great Shivaji of 17th Century. This politician is Raj Thackeray , the nephew of Shiv Sena Supremo Bal Thackray, and head of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS). Raj has been giving anti- North Indians statements for quite sometime and is ridiculing the festivals of Northern India (particularly the Chhat festival of Bihar). Just a few days back, he alleged the superstar Amitabh Bachchan of not doing enough for Maharashtra and insulted him for his love for the North Indian state of Uttar Pradesh (UP). Amitabh, who originally belongs to Allahabad (a city of UP) is very close to a North Indian politician Amar Singh of Samajwadi Party in UP. raj_thackery.jpg

Raj Thackeray publically insulted Amar Singh, questioned the integrity of Amitabh and declared that Amar Singh will not be allowed to enter into Mumbai. He warned all North Indians to behave themselves in Mumbai.

Yesterday, wide spread incident of violence between supporters of Raj Thackray and Samajwadi Party (of Amar Singh ) were reported in Mumbai. We saw the grim images of innocent North Indians being brutally beaten by party activist of MNS. Poor taxi drivers were dragged out of their taxis and were brutally beaten by them, the stalls of many daily hawker were thrashed and many poor people were harassed just for their being an outsider in Mumbai.

In my opinion, these activists are not members of a political party. They are goons and criminals. The nation is in rage and strong protests against Raj Thackray have started in the country (especially in North India). In a democratic country like India, everybody has the right to move freely and earn his livelihood wherever he wants. Our constitution guarantees this by means of Fundamental Rights. There are no discrimination on the basis of caste, creed, religion or any regional basis. But Mr. Raj appears to be totally ignorant about our constitution and its contents. He is behaving like a novice and his actions have already made him extremely unpopular among the masses.

Let me tell you about something about North Indian people living in Mumbai. I get this information from a leading newspaper of India.

In it’s population of 1.5 Crore (15 millions), Mumbai has 30% people of North Indian origin. This figure includes the population of Mumbai and it’s surrounding suburbs. If you add the percentage of South Indians and Gujarati/Marwaris living in Mumbai, you will find that almost 82% people living in Mumbai are outsiders and only 18% of the population is the original native of Maharashtra. Among all the Hindi speaking people in Mumbai, 80% belongs to UP & Bihar. The maximum among these are from the districts of Eastern UP like Benaras, Jaunpur, Ajamgarh, Pratapgarh, Allahabad and Basti. Some of the most essential services in Mumbai are being provided by these people. The trades related to Dairy, Milk production, education, Paan (betel leaf), Taxi transport, Flour Mills, Vegetables, Security Guards and junk items are being managed by North Indians in Mumbai. In fact these people have become part and parcel of the life in Mumbai and they are doing their best in making this city the financial hub of India. As such a blatant attack on them is likely to hamper the overall functioning of the city. Further this does not bode well for the rest of the country as well.

Mr. Raj Thackray has been a struggling politician since the time he separated from his parent party Shiv Sena. He is behaving like a flop actor who, despite his fading popularity, tries to be in the lime light by making sensational scene in the public.

Raj is a great admirer of Hitler. He once said on his birthday:

“Hitler had everything. The one thing he did not have was the ambition to conquer the world,” Raj said, adding, “you can draw whatever conclusions you want from my remarks.” (See Source)

Mr Raj ! your are not living in the Nazi Germany of 1939. You are living in India of 21st century. Please don’t try to repeat what Hitler did during those times. It will backfire on you very heavily.

UPDATE : What follow below are the comments of our fellow Indians on this issue. Some people are very angry with Raj, some are his strong supporters whereas some are disappointed with this entire issue. Some people have used extremely abusive language ( censored at appropriate places). Some have even criticized me and have questioned my knowledge of this subject. Feel free to make a comment here if you wish. No matter which side of fence you are, please don’t use abusive language in your comments.

Further Update : This article was written on Feb 4, 2008. It’s been more than a year and I suppose it has served its purpose of highlighting the issue of Marathi/non-Marathi from the perspective of both sides. Though I am still getting comments from people, I suppose it will be unnecessary to drag the debate any further. Therefore,  I have decide to close the comments option for this post.

Dear proud Marathi,

I can understand the pain in your comments. If what you described (about the Nagpur incident) is true, then it is but natural for everybody to develop a feeling of hate for Bihari students. However, just the behavior of some idiots Bihari students should not be your yardstick to make an opinion about everybody who belongs to Bihar.

I am not from Bihar. However, in my personal and professional life, I got the opportunity to interact with many Bihari persons. It is true that some of them were just like what you described in your post, but in majority of the cases they were fair and cooperative people just like any other community.

Further, it is not true that most Bihari grabbed the maximum IAS/IPS seats by using muscle power. UPSC is still among those few institutions in India where manipulation by any means is nearly impossible. In Bihar young students have very few choices. There are not enough opportunities to develop or utilize their entrepreneur skills. In most cases the choice is limited to work hard and get a government job or join a small political outfit. So many Bihari students works really hard to get into the IAS.

I think that people of Maharashtra have every right to express concern if their cultural identity or their jobs are being challenged by outsiders. However, what I don’t approve is the way it is done. Beating innocent taxi drivers & rickshaw pullers on street, mercilessly thrashing students and attacking everybody from North is not the way to go. It’ll only create more tension and distrust.

In your pain and concern about Marathi identity crisis, please don’t forget that we all are Indians and it is not possible to live in isolation(even if we want). Problems of Bihar are also the problems of India and we need a broad mindset to solve them. Can you live in peace if some poor Indian in a remote village of our country die of hunger? That village can be anywhere – in Bihar, in Orissa, in UP or even in Maharashtra. Playing blame games is very easy. What I see there that a blame game is going on. I request all friends to please don’t make it a board for personal attacks on each other.

Express your opinion but not blame an entire community. We may differ in opinion but let us not allow this difference to bitter our sense of being an Indian first.

Hi Mayur……..

I do not agree to some of u r points…

Also when we say north Indians do not respect Marathis and our culture it means the same what u have written in u r blog. People from other part of india are not ready to accept reality.

And Mr. eklavya….people like u blindly accept this…resulting into confrontation.

As for other points……nobody asks ….Gandhis, Vajpayee Lalu about their wealth……In India u need money to play politics…..especially to confront politicians of north who are filty rich and know only the moneypower game.

Point 1 : Kolis still live in Mumbai and whole of kokan stretch and they speak Marathi and are a part of Maharashtra.
The whole area of Kokan was ruled by the Satavanahas who had there controlling fort in Thane.
Mumbai” is an eponym, etymologically derived from Mumba or Maha-Amba – the name of the Hindu goddess Mumbadevi – and Aai, “mother” in Marathi. The former name Bombay had its origins in the 16th century when the Portuguese arrived in the area and called it by various names, which finally took the written form Bombaim as they could not pronounce the word MUMBAI, still common in current Portuguese use. After the British gained possession in the 17th century, it was anglicised to Bombay, although it was known as Mumbai or Mumbai to Marathi and Gujarati-speakers, and as Bambai in Hindi, Urdu. The name was officially changed to its Marathi pronunciation of Mumbai in 1995.
After 1955, when the State of Bombay was being re-organized along linguistic lines into the states of Maharashtra and Gujarat, there was a demand that the city be constituted as an autonomous city-state. Bombay Citizens’ committee, an advocacy group comprising of leading Gujarathi industrialists lobbied for Mumbai’s independent status. However, the Samyukta Maharashtra movement opposed this, and insisted that Mumbai being part of Maharashtra as it had majority of Marathi speaking community. Following protests in which 105 people were killed by police firing, Maharashtra state was formed with Mumbai as its capital on May 1, 1960.
Point 2: As for peshwas this is their history: After a lifetime of exploits and guerrilla warfare with Adilshah of Bijapur and Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, the local king Shivaji founded an independent Maratha kingdom in 1674 with Raigad as its capital. Shivaji died in 1680, leaving a large, but vulnerably located kingdom. The Mughals invaded, fighting an unsuccessful 25 year long war from 1682 to 1707. Shahu, a grandson of Shivaji, ruled as emperor until 1749. During his reign, Shahu appointed a Peshwa (prime minister) as head of government under certain conditions. After the death of Shahu, the Peshwas became the de facto leaders of the Empire from 1749 to 1761, while Shivaji’s successors continued as nominal rulers from their base in Satara. Covering a large part of the subcontinent, the Maratha Empire kept the British forces at bay during the 18th century, until dissension between the Peshwas and their sardars, or army commanders, tore at their cohesion.
The Maratha Empire was at its height in the 18th century under Shahu and the Peshwa Baji Rao I. Losses at the Third Battle of Panipat in 1761 suspended further expansion of the empire and reduced the power of the Peshwas. In 1761, after severe losses in the Panipat war, the Peshwas lost control of the Kingdom. Many sardars like Shinde of Malva and Gwalior , Holkar of Ujjain, Gaikwad of Baroda, Pant Pratinidhi, Bhosale of Nagpur, Pandit of Bhor, Patwardhan, and Newalkar became kings in their respective regions. early 19th century, the clashes with the British and the British East India Company in the three Anglo-Maratha Wars. In the Third Anglo-Maratha War, the last Peshwa, Baji Rao II, was defeated by the British in 1818. Most of the former Maratha Empire was absorbed by British India, although some of the Maratha states persisted as quasi-independent princely states until India became independent in 1947.

Read and if you agree kindly Forward to Not Only Marathi People, But also to Non-Maharashtrians.
Let them also be aware of the Situation that may happen to their Jobs as well.

A time will come in Maharashtra when, just like the Farmers in Maharashtra, the Graduate
Youth of this State will Commit Suicide !!!!

This situation will arise because, All the Jobs in Maharashatra then, will be Occupied by Non- Maharashtrians.
Non Maharashtrians here means not people from North India, South India, etc., But those People who
are Not Domiciled In Maharashtra. Similar situation may happen to people of other states too.

Railway Recruitment Board aspirants are Brutally Beaten Up !!!

There is large scale Rioting in Bandra, Kalyan, etc !!!!

STOP.

THINK. Why this Situation has come up ???

The Actual Truth is this :-

Since Independence India’s States were formed on the Basis of the Local Languages. Logical.
Since 1976, The employment criteria of the Central Recruitment Board was divided into
zones as per the General People of India. This division was based on the Local Language of the States.

Zone-A Bihar, Haryana, HP, MP, Rajasthan, UP, Andaman, Delhi formed the Hindi Speaking Zone.

Zone-B Maharashtra, Gujarat, Punjab & Chandigad, the Non Hindi Speaking Zone.

Zone-C Southern India States like Kerala, Karnataka, etc. & North Eastern States like
Assam, Mizoram, Bengal etc.

The Central Employment Rule said that ‘All Exams for Employments in the respective Zones shall
be Held in the Respective States Only.’ So that the Local People may get the Jobs in their Home Town.
Very Logical. For 30 Years everything was going Fine.

But since 1987, there was a Minor Change in the Rule 9 Part 9.2.2, for Zone -B Jobs. And this
was made a Rule since 1988. This change was that ‘As an optional Language of employement, People of Zone-A
can Apply for Jobs in Zone-B.’ This opened up doors of Employement for All Zone-A aspirants in Zone-B areas.

But with this Clause there was a Sub-Clause, stating ‘ The Notice of Jobs in Zone-B areas for Zone-A
aspirants, May be given in Zone-A Areas only.’ Because of this, Recruitment Notices for Jobs in Maharashtra, etc.
are Displayed Only in states like UP, Bihar, Rajasthan, etc. But these Notices are Seldom displayed in Newspapers
of Maharashtra, etc.

So this time, for the 3000 Railway Posts in Maharashtra, 12000 Aspirants came from Zone-A areas.
The Result of this is that, the Un-employed of Maharashtra is Remaining Un-employed. This will surely lead to
Suicides in Due Course.

Many Parties over these years Requested the Central Recruitment Board to Cancel this Clause.
But this was Not done. The Result of this is, the Large Scale Beating Up and Rioting Today. This violent
means is Not Correct. But has there been any choice Left today ???

This mail is Not to Justify Violence, but to show to you how some Politicians, by Modifying some Rules,
have Subtly ensured that their Constituency people get Better Employements. Why should all these Politicians
hold rallies in Maharashtra ???

How will anything be done, as all these Years people like Nitish Kumar, Ram Vilas Paswan
and Lalu Prasad Yadav are the Railway Ministers. Today many TCs, Booking Clerks, GRP, in the Mumbai Railways
are from Zone-A areas. Today Many New Trains have been started to these States. Holiday Specials & Garib Raths
are also run specially for these States. This is a Fact.

What Should Be Done ;- College Admissions and Employments should be Given on the Basis of Domicile
Certificates. I remember in 1991, when I was applying for College Admissions I was asked to produce
a Domicile Cert. But after my Batch this Rule was Relaxed. 17 years down the line we are Witnessing
the Result of All this.

Agreed, 10% Out of Maharashtra People may be Allowed. But First Think of the Sons of Soil. This should
be applicable Not Only in Maharashtra, but also in other States.

Read and if you agree kindly Forward to Not Only Marathi People, But also to Non-Maharashtrians.
Let them also be aware of the Situation that may happen to their Jobs as well.

Mr Vishal……… betrayed his family??????? get ur facts right about Rajsaheb Thackrey and his family..

And one more thing….hindi hai watan hai…..hindustan hamara……hindustan was first with the MUGALS then MARATHAS and then BRITISH……never with UP/BIHARIS…

also Mr Atomo….due u know who Jhansi ki rani was…..she was… the queen of the Maratha-ruled princely state of Jhansi in North India, was one of the leading figures of the Indian Mutiny of 1857, and a symbol of resistance to British rule in India. Her original name was….Manikarnika Moropant Tambey

Marathi manoos people are generally lazy bums who want free lunches October 29, 2008 at 3:04 am

Why is Coward Raj Thackeray wanting Z+ security and crying hoarse when it is removed.Did any of freedom fighters get Z+ security from the british.

Can the marathi manoos develop any other maharastrian city nasik, aurangabad etc etc into a bombay without the sweat and blood of the industrious outsider

Nitin October 29, 2008 at 3:22 am

I agree with Mayur’s statement.

Nobody has ever stopped maharashtrians to sell pani puri’s, drive autos in mumbai. Maharashtrian men mostly are lazy. I happen to live in south and north of india for sometime. I have seen that south indians are ready to do any kind of work… The same applies with north indians.. The north indian truck drivers who drive down from up north to all over India delivering the things…. But i have never ever seen a maharashtrian truck driver and if i happen to meet one, the attitude of a maharashtrian ( not all ) sucks… A common maharashtrian still lives in the era of King Shivaji without knowing the good things done by the great Hindu Ruler. Politicians like Raj has literally taken laws in his hands and playing games with the common people.

I end my comment by saying that

Maharashtra-Mumbai is a great place to stay as we all know. There are just too many poeple. There is nothing bad that non maharashtrians are coming to Mumbai. That means Maharashtra or Mumbai has better education, better life, and Maharashtrians should be proud about the fact rather than insulting and being violent against the guests.

Be a True and Proud Indian!!!
Jai Hind !!

yes and taxes collected in maharashtra shuld not go to any other states…..

pooshkar October 29, 2008 at 4:10 am

Saurabh ….what u have written is so true….let me add ro each of your points…

1. True…..if the student u is standing first and has copied…
2. yup …paraliament system to be abolished….only…..CMs of each state should from a group and head the country with a elected CEO ( among themselves)….like a professional company. Autonomy should be given to each state.
3. There should be no prime minister…..only a CEO.
4. Yup Hindi movies should be only made in UP and Bihar.
5. Each state should hire people from there own states to run there govt machinery….buses trains planes etc…..taxes should be paid while entering other sates.
6. No person should go for searching jobs in other states until they are professionally qualified and requested to do the job as no talent is available in the said state. Efforts should be taken to build the require talent.
7. no answer…as its mythological.
8. Visit to Taj should be restricted only to UPwalas….Others should be charged taxes for the same.
9. Taxes collected in each state should not be given to central Govt for distribution to other states. ( what will happen to UP Bihar then)
10. If above is followed Kashmiri problem stands solved.
11. MNC are working because of commitment to develop and progress given by the people of the state ( some states don’t do that..UP Bihar WB..we knw what happened at sigur).
12. as this relates to spending of wealth…one can do it any where…
13. as this relates to spending of wealth…one can do it anywhere….
14. Industries shuld be allowed to be set up….if the promoter want to…but 80% workers should be from the state. All the taxes should be paid to the state in which it is set up.
15. Local trains should be handled by the transport arm of the state government. Only the best system should be implemented.
16. Ensure that each state maintains its culture identity and same should be taught to the students in school.

Execute Raj October 29, 2008 at 4:56 am

This was the breaking news on one of the TV channel today

Rafi October 29, 2008 at 7:06 am

i dont understand any of your historical debates on who belongs to maharashtra and who deserves to go…
Its not your mistake that we still fight on our ethnicity…and try to prove that one is superior to another which in my opinion has no point
I just believe that We have come a long way from the time when people use to fight for land…we all know that if these type of situations persist than it would be end of India as a single country..
If Marathis are doing this then other states would also do the same as a revenge…and I dont think that would be a good sight to be a spectator of.
I strongly agree with Mayur when he said that the present state of Mumbai as a so called ‘sapno ki nagri’ and a business destination is a result of hardwork and foresight of people all around India and not just Marathis…
I have heard stories of outsiders in US and European countries mistreated on grounds of their Asian ethnicity…And then i started hearing same stories happening in states like Tamilnadu only this time instead of Asians they were north indians
I also used to hate South Indians at that time..when my cousin left his job and came back home from Chennai and told us stories on what happened to him…but then I grew up…
I just think that people should realize that this is not what should have happened…I think that ppl should think as an Insaan if you understand what u mean…they should realize that fighting over caste, nationality, colour, language is not a good idea…They should be judged according to ones behaviour…instead of beating and killing people by the languages they speak try to khatam karofy those people who wants us to keep fighting each other so they can get some publicity and can mint some money

Mayur October 29, 2008 at 8:23 am

Acharya Atre, S.A. Dange, and Prabodhakar Thackeray (father of Balasaheb) — the leaders of Samyukta Maharashtra — Mumbai was to be a working-class city with better employment opportunities and social justice for all — not just a city that spoke Marathi, favoured sons of the soil, and suspected outsiders of stealing their jobs.

Mayur October 29, 2008 at 9:59 am

I would like to state here that the Peshwas (the Brahmin chief ministers) defrauded the maratha chhatrapatis (the decendants of Shivaji) after shivajis death in 1680 and usurped their kingdoms. Not very different from whats happening today.Only difference is that now the sons of the soil want to attain economic prosperity without working for it by driving away people who actually worked to make Bombay what it is today.Thats typical maharashtrian behaviour for you. There is a common story amongst maharashtrians about how Marathis are like crabs in a basket. One tries to crawl out and the others pull him back.Couldnt agree more with it.

Mayur October 29, 2008 at 10:02 am

I can understand that politicians nedd money poewer but to defraud unemployed people of whatever little they have and to get away with it?TThats more than criminal. And you condone it?

Mayur October 29, 2008 at 10:18 am

I don’t understand what you mean by the statement “north indians do not respect Marathi culture”.What should a north Indian do when he meets a Marathi?Touch his feet and solute him?Sing songs of praises of maharashtrian culture?Do you touch the feet of North Indians who protect you on the border against Pakistanis and jihadists bent upon killing you?Do you salute the Punjabis, haryanvis, rajasthanis and UPites who grow the grains and crops that you eat?Has anybody stopped you from celebrating your festivals?Dont forget that the Mutiny of 1857 was started by Mangal pandey.I don’t have to tell you from which part of India he was. That was the start of Indias freedom movement.Do you salute the people from Bihar and UP and thank them for starting the freedom struggle?Grow up my friend.Just curious..whats your age?

Mayur October 29, 2008 at 10:23 am

Just curious about your comment that you need leaders like south indians? You sure ? Didn’t shiv sena go after south Indians a little while back? And if I remember correctly the slogan for that movement was “Uthao lungi, bajao pungi”.So much for the leadership of south Indians. If people like you who are literate enough to use the internet have such thoughts ……I wonder what to expect from a common man.The more you people write on this forum the more you depress me.

Mayur October 29, 2008 at 10:26 am

Just to bring you up to the facts…..Barring the industrially advanced Bombay-Poona region, the rest of Maharashtra is even now industrially as underdeveloped as several other States in India. nearly 70 per cent of its people living in rural areas depend on agriculture for their livelihood. As the percentage of the net irrigated area to the cultivated area is extremely low and the rainfall irregular, scanty and undependable, agriculture in Maharashtra has invariably been affected by the vagaries of the monsoon.Who is responsible for the industrial development of Bombay-Poona region? Not Maharshtrians. Not even 1 paisa contribution.Lazy bums.Dont want to work, and don’t let others work also.

It all sounds more like mumbai is to India what India is to America when it comes to job insecurity. What I mean to say is that Americans fear loss of jobs when their business models are outsourced to India. That time we’re proud that we’re better than USA. Almost half of the educated indians are working in IT and BPOs. Ditto is mumbai. I don’t really understand why is there so much hue and cry over maharashtrians not getting employment cos of UP/biharis! I guess if you really had to blame someone for job insufficiency it should be marwari, gujratis, because they have a large chunk of business in Mumbai. UP Biharis infact almost live hand to mouth – and like someone said earlier, everyone is most welcome to sell pani puri and drive taxis. How does throwing UP Biharis help maharashtrians get more job opportunities? It definitely helps in getting publicity and being a hero for nothing.

Why not help marathis outside Mumbai? There are plenty of villages and towns and many maharashtrians deprived of employment. Why aren’t the so-called-concerned-maharashtrians doing anything to help reduce the suicide rate in the rest of maharashtra? Why are you targeting only mumbai? All these politicians visit these remote areas and make promisises just before the elections. WHat have they done to help agriculture prosper in Maharahstra? WHy haven’t all the concerned maharashtrians developed other towns? Gujarat, Punjab have so many developed cities. Whats the charm in going mad over development in maharashtra with just Mumbai and pune, max Nagpur and nasik? All those people who sang a million praises about maharashtra are only talking about Mumbai. Nothing else is attractive in Maharashtra. Even the historical sites are not well kept. Didn’t someone mention that the kings in Rajasthan gave up their kingdoms and hence the palaces are intact, whereas Shivaji fought and hence there are only ruins remaining? Hello, how many of you maharashtrians done anything for the upkeep of the ruins? OKie, let me tell you facts – I hail from Pune – the heart of the marathi culture and shivaji maharaj’s hometown. There are many forts in and around pune – none kept well. There aren’t too many UP Biharis in Pune, maharashtrians definitely out number in leaps and bounds. The forts are dirty, stinky and an impossible place to be in. Same goes to the Ellora and Ajanta caves. The foul smell can drive people out instantly. Been there, done that!

As someone mentioned in the posts, Mumbai is dirty, etc. How many maharashtrians sitting here have not travelled by cars/ bikes / taxis? You sit in a Air conditioned office? You spray perfume/ deodrants? You burst crackers? You eat and throw waste on the road? You do the Ganesh festival and immerse the idols in water? There you caused pollution of every kind and dirtied your city. So now you will say, its my “baap ka city” or its shivaji’s maratha kingdom – the general historical showoff? Grow up, Shivaji Maharaj was a true maratha, don’t compare yourself to him. He’s prayed, don’t un-dignify him! And it is pointless to bring Shivaji Maharaj in today’s mumbai scenario – for once, I doubt Shivaji Maharaj was a mumbaiite!

What MNS and Shiv Sena are doing is not for the benefit of the maharashtrian community – please understand that. Many poor innocent maharashtrians have lost their work and been injured. Witness one of the violence and your heart will reach out to them. If you support MNS, then you will also support jehadi terrorist attacks. Well, they are also doing for the benefit of their minority community. They also want their culture to supersede indian. What culture is Raj Thackeray and his supporters talking about? Everyone celebrates/ celebrated New Years Eve, Birthdays, Anniversaries. I have already mentioned this point earlier. And if you guys blog in here, I’m sure atleast half of you celebrate even Valentine’s Day! So now since you believe in the new found god -Raj Thackeray, you should become a devout maharashtrian. Start wearing dhoti, white cap, kurta and force women to wear navari saree – oops! his own wife was seen wearing salwar kameez! How dare she?? Its a north Indian dress! Start blogging your comments here in marathi – lol half of the people would be happy they can understand it. Stop using English signatures. Stop seeing hindi movies. Stop drooling over Hindi actors. Com’on preserve the marathi culture not respected by the UP Biharis!

Do any North Indians bother to learn Marathi

Vijayabhaskara October 30, 2008 at 6:02 am

I am not Marathi. I am an Andhra but I think the Marathi people are being unfairly potrayed in the media. I give Raj Thackeray a pass because I have tremendous respect for his uncle. Raj Thackeray, Bal Thackeray and Narendra Modi are the only politicians who speak some truth. Where is the outrage in the media about the Christian facists who are converting Hindus in order that India will have no morals like an African countries which have been converted to Christianity. Jai Hind!

Vijayabhaskara October 30, 2008 at 6:27 am

I am not even Marathi. I am an Andhra. Hindi speakers never fear the wiping out of their language and culture because of their numerical superiority and the privileged position of Hindi accorded by the constitution and the central government. Hindi speakers don’t understand that the other language people of India have cultures second to none in this world and all these Marathis are asking is that there culture not be wiped out by a tidal wave of Hindi speakers. The Government of India protects Hindi. But who will protect Marathi, Andhram, Gujarathi, Kannadam etc. if not the people of these states. Raj Thackeray is simply trying to prevent a cultural genocide. Bhaarata Desham would be the loser if Marathi culture is lost. Many of these cultures are pure Vedic cultures un-raped by Muslims unlike U.P/Bihar. We would like to preserve our Vedic cultures without a Hindustani onslaught. The English onslaught is bad enough. I am not justifying any violence. I am just trying to convey the fears of non-Hindi speakers. What Hindi speakers have to understand is that Bhaarata Desham is a sacred land unlike any other country and its parts must be preserved in full.

It appears you have taken my suggestion to you to write in lower case personally. It is a general request to all who are posting here. You (or anybody else for that matter) will not become more impressive just by writing in Block letters.

The reason why some of the post got approved despite being in upper case is that owing to current incidents in Maharashtra, I have started getting a flood of comments on this post. As a result, it was not possible for me to scrutinize every post carefully and some mistakes were bound to happen.

I also want to clarify that though I am against Raj Thackeray, I am not against people of Maharashtra. My anger with Raj also is not personal. It is all because of his cheap politics in the name of Maratha pride. I am trying to approve all negative and positive comments that I received. Being an independent blogger gives me the freedom to allow even some very harsh comments. However, I am trying to block only those comment which are extremely abusive, insulting and insensitive to the feelings of others. Many of your past comments have been blocked because of this reason.

Further, don’t compare this tiny blog with your so called great leader. It will be a big joke. I can write anything on my blog but Mr Raj Thackeray is not free to do anything with people of India or Maharashtra. Just because many locals favors him does not mean that the entire Maharashtra has become his personal property. Maharashtra is not the personal blog of a blogger.

Why is a person who is a threat to the Indian nation and constitution be protected by Z+ security October 31, 2008 at 1:39 am

Why is Coward Raj Thackeray wanting Z+ security and crying hoarse when it is removed.Did any of freedom fighters get Z+ security from the british.
Why is a person who is a threat to the Indian nation and constitution be protected by Z+ security by his own provocative action and speeches leading to rioting and murder. Why is tax payers money being used to protect such scum of the earth.

Can the marathi manoos develop any other maharastrian city nasik, aurangabad etc etc into a bombay without the sweat and blood of the industrious outsider

Pangerkar October 31, 2008 at 2:21 am

Mayur October 31, 2008 at 11:50 pm

Anybody noticed the change in the voice of Raj thackeray since the central govt threatened to arrest him under NSA?Lets see if he has the guts now.Not very unlike Bal thackerays cowardice in the face of Indira gandhis emergency.

Eklavya November 1, 2008 at 12:36 am

Dear Bakra,

Please don’t do anything that make this matter worse. We all are depressed and disappointed with the way this matter is being handled by our politicians. It is the most inhuman kind of politics going on where lives of North Indians is being traded to ensure vote banks of Marathis.

However, going by the recent development, I think youth from North will not require to take law in their hands. Some strong action against RT will be taken by the central government after Chhat Puja. So wait and watch.

Jaywant Patil November 1, 2008 at 3:18 am

I AM WRITING THIS INFORMATION AGAIN ON THIS BLOG JUST BECAUSE , THE ALL INTELLECTUAL PEOPLE(?) GIVING THE COMMENTS AGAINTS THE RESPECTED MR. RAJSAHEB THACKRAYJI , MUST KNOW THE REALITY.

PROBABLY THEY MUST HAVE READ IT , BUT WHY NOT A SINGLE PROTESTER OF RAJJI DID NOT WRITE THEIR COMMENT ON THIS ?

I JUST REQUEST TO ALL OF YOU THAT BEFORE MAKING ANY COMMENT ON ANYBODY YOU SHOULD HAVE ALL THE KNOWELEDGE ABOUT THE ISSUE.

Kaamkibaat November 1, 2008 at 11:23 am

I can think of best punishment for every single person in this list starting from Raj Thackerey,
Lalu, Nitish Kumar, parents and family of
unfortunate victims and all this crazy hulla ballus

Every single one of this marathi or non-marathi
brigade must be put into a room where Chanakya
serial is sound in surround sound studio. And they
are not allowed to come out until their brain
is washed clean of this filth.

It is time to only think “Be Indian, Think Indian”.
Maybe it is high time for India to remove every
freaking state or city boundaries logically
from the minds of people.

Bhelwala, Panipuriwala, sandwichwala in Mumbai is
always called Bhaiya

Idli dosawala is always Anna

Share market is always called Bhai

Can all of this collectively help lift Marathi
Bhau out of his low self esteem and solve this
mess.

Can Bhaiya, Anna, Bhai and Bhau get together
and forget Raj?

On a positive note, Raj’s complaint can be
stated that “Mumbai does need a massive
revamp of its infrastructure and place”.
It needs

If we let our country’s fate into these politicans hands, soon we’d be facing Greeks, Americans and British (Even Pakistanis)

Bach November 2, 2008 at 2:04 am

Just pasting a mail which is being forwarded all across>>>
We all should support Raj Thackeray and take his initiative ahead by doing more…
1.We should teach our kids that if he is second in class……

The Great Maratha November 2, 2008 at 9:15 am

Raj saheb is the best.

Raj (LN doesn't start with T) November 2, 2008 at 8:47 pm

Its not about people stealing away jobs, or about northies vs. southies or maharashtrians, its not about being cosmopolitan or not, its about fair, open and free market for jobs. How many maharashtrians are in Bangalore? Think about it. At least think about the US, if the US were to shut its doors to all the Indian immigrants and companies who flooded indian economy with foreign capital, we would have been still in those old produce your own khadi cond*** India! Well politics is the countries worse curse, and the only factor which makes India take two steps forward and one step backward. I wonder if China would ever let anything like this happen in Shangai or any of the provinces where millions of people migrate to work. They won’t that is why they have progressed far more than India. Look at the way the pulled of the olympics, India can only dream about it. We are busy fighting internal battles fueled by politcal agendas. Indians are bright; I have travelled enough to see Indians excel in every feild that we step in to, but we are so poor to get our house in order and think liberaly. Think about it.

Vishal-(RAJ THAKREY-THE SHITLER) November 3, 2008 at 4:52 am

Dear Push kar
Thanks for reminding me my history chapters. But let me clear your doubts as well. You said it was with MARATHAS then with BRITISH. Can you answer me what the hell was Marathas were doing when British were f******g our country for hundreds of years. I am sure at that time also some Mr Raj Thakrey would have started this kind of a mess which lead our “Soney ki chidiya” into trouble.
Not to mention the sacrifices to recover our freedom. Do u have any idea?
You guys are losing your impression on rest of the world just becoz of SHITLER-Raj Thakrey.

Grow up!!!
