After facing numerous statistics wherein I saw India in a poor light as compare to other countries, here is consolation prize.
When it comes to reading, we Indians are number one.
Recently in a study by the World Culture Score Index, the responses of 1,600 individuals in 30 countries around the world were compiled for determining the number of hours spent reading by individuals around the world.
Based on the responses in the study, India is the country where people are reading the most; the average Indian citizen reads 10:42 hours per week, followed by consumers in Thailand and China (at 9.4 hours and 8 hours per week respectively). At 3.1, 4.1 and 5 hours respectively, individuals in Korea, Japan and Taiwan fall to the bottom of the reading list.
The above study was part of the “Media Habits” Index offering a global perspective on the time consumers report watching television, listening to the radio, searching the Internet and reading.
Have a look at the comparison chart.
In the present of time gloom and doom, this news is like fresh breath of air ! Enjoy !
